What's the difference...

There is some distinction between a Level 1 and a Level 2 trauma center, but I don't know what it is. The nearest level 1 to us is over 400 miles away. Our town has a level 2. I'm just wondering what we lack. My impression is that we can handle just about anything... 'cause sometimes we have to.

A Level I and Level II trauma center are different in what the center can handle. A Level I could handle anything and a higher volume. most have a helicopter and OR Surgeons on call 24 hrs a day. They always have an orthopedic and can handle mass casualty incidents. A level 2 doesn't always have those things and has a cap on the number of patients that they can see. A level three is a bandaid station, for the most part. Hope this was helpful!

Level 1 Trauma center...

Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center

Level 2 Trauma Center

Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center

These are actually Illinois rules..but since the designations are determined by the American College of Surgeons..for the most part they are Nationwide rules...there may be ever so slight differences state to state...ie some of the specialist MDs that this says have 60 min to get to the hospital may have to be in house in some other states...like our policy is that for LeveL 1 trauma's our trauma attending has to be present within 15 minutes...hope this helps, its alot of reading...For the most part level 2's are set up just like level 1s with the exception the amount of staff and resources required, what the volume of trauma patients is, and amount of research required.

Thanks!

I always wondered too.

Good Day! :flowersfo
