What's the best electronic device for Nursing School?

Published

I am getting a lot of pros and cons on tablets and Ipads. I want to know what will work best for Nursing students? Also, which devices are the most multi faceted for a students needs?

I have an iPad 2 that I have been using and really have liked so far. I used it this past summer in my anatomy class to take notes with during class, using a keyboard that goes with it. In my physiology class, my instructor likes using PowerPoints. I have an app that I use to follow along with the PowerPoints on the iPad that allows me to highlight and make notes on the slides. I don't have to worry about having to print the PowerPoints out, I can add additional pages in with the PowerPoints to make additional notes. It is small and doesn't add much weight to my bag. So far the only downside I experienced with using my iPad last semester was that the website that the book used for additional material used flash. Most of the stuff on the site that used flash I was able to get to work by using another browser that supported flash, there had been only a couple of things that still didn't want to work properly.

For writing papers I use pages, cost me around $10. With the separate keyboard I am able to type things up. For printing I don't have a working printer at home, but I just send what I want to print out as a PDF attachment to my email and have had no problems printing from another computer.

Based on all of the comments that I have read in this section, I just purchased an iPhone 6s and I'm going to purchase the Notability app to record lectures, etc. For taking notes, I will probably purchase an iPad with a keypad and use Dropbox so that I can transfer everything to my desktop at home if I need a Word document or printing capability. You all have answered my questions. I'm a 44 year old mother, just divorced and going back to school after 20 years. I have a master's in education and feel completely out of the loop with school, since everything is now high tech. I'm not afraid of technology, I just don't have experience using it as a student. Thank you for all of the hints, as I start my pre-requisites.
