I plan on starting the nursing program at CCCCD in the fall and I was just wondering what time in the morning that the clinicals normally start? Also I was wondering how do you pick, or get assigned your clinicals because I work full time, and I really dont have a choice on whether or not I can work if I dont want to live out of my car I have to work so.... If anyone that is currently attending the nursing program at CCCCD, or has attended their in the recent past could fill me in I would greatly appreciate it. Also since I am pretty sure you cant pick the time or day of your clinicals so is it possible to trade with someone else if you found somebody that was willing to do that. Thanks alot!!

I'll be starting the program this semester. We were told our clinicals will be Tuesday & Wednesday roughly 6am-12ish. Don't remember the exact times. They also said there is one small group that will do ONE long clinical, instead of 2 days. Hope that helps. Good luck!
Thank you for taking the time to answer, I got my acceptance letter for the fall and I heard that it is really rigorous, what can you tell me about the program?
Please feel free to PM any specific questions you have.
Schedule wise...........we have one LONG theory/lecture day, 2 shorter clinical days (but there are a couple of groups that have one long clinical day, and then a regularish day for skills. It is VERY demanding, as I'm sure most nursing programs are.

HI,
I graduated El Centro's program May 2008. When we finished we were told, that all theory classes would be taught on line in the future, (we still had to come in for class, both theory and skills), but I don't know if that really has started. Clinicals can be different every semester. Usually at the end of the semester you can put down your wishes in numerical order, but you're not guaranteed you will get it. All choice sheets will then be put in envelopes and then it will be the luck of the draw where you will end up. They will try to go by your wishes, but if the class is full, you're out of luck. Yes, you could ask someone to switch with you, but since most have put down their wishes and are happy if they got what they wanted, it will probably hard to find someone to switch with you. Some Clinicals are two half days a week, some are one full day a week. For most you have to come in around 6 or 6:30 am, but there are some that are late or evening clinicals.
It will be very hard for you to continue to work full time. The program is very demanding, you will have to do a lot of studying and researching on your own to keep up. Also there will be schedule changes for skills, clinicals or mandatory meetings you will have to attend. The first thing they told us : El Centro will own you for 2 years., be willing to give your all.
I wish you guys the best of luck,
If you want it, you can do it

As of now, it is 2 short days, usually from 6:30-11:30, and the long day would be 6:30-4:00, these times also depend on what facility you end up at, but it shouldn't be too different. Where you do clinicals is totally random. There is no choosing. There are several in my class that have worked full time from the beginning, most have decreased their hours to part-time or just above part-time (and are now in tech jobs). There are a few who can work full-time and still function - that is not me!! The program is indeed very rigorous and as they will tell you, it does indeed take over your life, however, it goes by very fast! 1st and 2nd semester you will have 4 school days unless you have a 1 long-day clinical then you will have 3 school days, so you are a little more committed with the time you have to be there than further on.
Hope this helps.
How long does it take to get your patient information for clinicals, and would you say that the 4.5 hrs that they say you will have to spend at clinicals is accurate, or does it take more time than that? Also I was wondering how hard the information actually is to learn? For example, in my opinion, the information in Microbiology was pretty difficult to learn, where would you place the nursing criteria. Thanks again for helping answer my questions and concerns.
