Published

Hello,

I'm RN searching for a job in California. 3 years experience in ER, BSN, have NCLEX, started visa screen... I'm interviewing by few hospitals and came into step of signing contract, but...

I do not know what is the reasonable salary + benefits should be for me. Some of them ask me what my target salary and I have no clue what should I ask for...

I'm married + 2, so the income suppose to be anought for us (at least till my wife will find a job for her to)

Hope for your help and advices

Specializes in Critical Care, Cardiothoracics, VADs.

It depends a lot on which area of California - where do you want to go? There have been lots of posts on here with salaries listed if you try the "Search" function.

Specializes in Medical-Surgical.

Here in the Silicon Valley area ( Northern California), starting pay for a new graduate in the ER is from $37 to $40. Sometimes the hospitals here would include the years of expereince you worked in another country and your pay would be higher. I am not an ER nurse but I got this info from an ER nurse whom I had worked with when we were volunteer nurses in a hospital in the Philippines.

Believe me, you will have enough. I started working here on a Interim Permit so my salary is not as much of an RN but we survived. My wife stays at home and take care of our three children. We can even send some money back home.
