Hi All
I was wondering do you need to have ER background in order to be a real good TTA nurse? I'm currently assigned to TTA. Seems like a lot of nurses there have ER background which I don't have. I feel somewhat incompetent and worry about my job performance. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I worked TTA with zero ER experience and I did fine. As long as your paired with a veteran nurse that Is willing to train and guide you then you should be fine.
It may also be good to have your preceptor drill you on the typical prison emergencies, that way you have an idea as to what your going to do before it comes through the door. Every prison is different and have their own particular problems but I would say that the major ones are the chest pains, seizures, lacerations, head trauma's and abscess.
thank you David for your input. We have lots of chest pain ( including the fake ones.. lol) lacerations, seizures, I haven't seen any stab wounds or burns yet maybe it's because it's a minimum facility.
TTA is good experience, it gave me a good foundation prior to me getting in the ER.
I agree with you David. That's why I volunteered to work at TTA. I hope I will be OK and gain my experience there. :)
