What to do?

I'm a new RN with approximately 6 months experience on a busy Tele floor. Recently I've been contacted about a position in a pediatric practice near me. They have all RNs, and one of their docs is in need of an RN. I'm going to meet with the office manager today. Ultimately, I hope to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. My concerns are:

Do I need to finish out my one year of acute care experience?

Is working in a pediatric office adequate experience to become a pediatric nurse practitioner?

I've told myself I won't even consider this job if the pay cut is drastic, so this may not even end up being an issue....Thoughts?

I'm so torn about what to do here any help would be appreciated!

Find out what that doctor pays- that might likely make it easy for you to decide to stay where you are. When you have your advanced license you can go to work for him. Also, you're a new grad- maybe after a year of acute you won't want to pursue an advanced license, or maybe you even be more eager to do so. Also, having that year of acute might help you get into the advanced program you want.

Just because he staffs only RNs doesn't mean the place will challenge you, is high-tech, or etc. Commonly, places are going to all RN staffs because they can be paid what LPNs used to be paid. Lots of nursing homes are doing the same thing, as well- partially also because of the number of IVs used, and the limits places on LPNs performing IVs in many states.
