What would you do?

[NICU-RN]

Okay.. this is going to be long. I accepted a position as a NICU nurse in a facility that I was working for PRN for about a year. Even before I started the position there was a lot of miscommunication. They kept changing their mind about what position was open (days v nights). I have minimal NICU experience but am really interested. The unit is very small, they do not perform surgeries at all. It is extremely understaffed, the nurses are unhappy and gossip about one another, and the misuse the NICU RN's to work in the nursery. I was leery about accepting the position but needed to start working for financial reasons. However, of one their sister hospitals, with a much larger NI, is offering a position to me. I want to give the hospital a chance but I already left a previous hospital because of childish and hateful coworkers. I do not want to go thru this again. As a nurse that has been working only a few years, I need a warm environment that I can learn in because I know there is soo much to learn especially when you specialize.Plus, I know that they are going to try to use me to work in the nursery because it is sooo understaffed. I want NI, but I understand that NI nurses float to nursery. I just do not want to be used as a "floater" and not be compensated for that. I dont want to be compensated for it because I do not want to be a nursery nurse. I mean, nursery is ok but there is soo many of them. I come from an ICU and I am not used to multiple patients, but I am not against learning. I "lightly" expressed this to the supervisor and she assured me that I would be in the NI after I orientate to the nursery for a short time. Howver, I feel that she really wants to orietate me but use me as a nursery RN. Would you guys stay or go ahead and go with the sister hospital? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

I would RUN, to the other hospital. If they can't even get the shift you will be working strait...there's lots of problems going on.

Like you said, you have already dealt with a similar situation, and you know how difficult it is, why do it again?
