What are the steps

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hello,

I am a nursing student that will graduate in May. I never realized all the different areas of nursing there are until I started the Program. I live in Idaho and am very interested in becoming and CRNA. Can anyone tell me the first steps I need to take and what degrees I need to have before I am eligable.

Thank you.

You already have one of the main things you need...a BSN. 2nd most important thing is you need one year of experience in an ICU...preferably one with the sickest patients and most invasive hemodynamic monitoring; and lets not forget the most vasoactive drips....but any ICU experience will allow you to apply, you just want the experience that gives you the best chance of getting accepted Thirdly...you may need to take the GRE (depending on where you go), but the majority of schools do require that. Fourth, you need at least a 3.0 GPA in nursing school. You will also need to send in references from co-workers or doctors on you unit to the CRNA schools...so build a a good report with your managers, attending MD's, etc.

Hope this Helps.

You might want to shadow a CRNA for a bit to see what it's all about (and make sure that's what you want to do). Also, check out the AANA website (aana.com). There you can find all of the accredited programs, their locations, admission requirements, tuition, etc. Good luck to you and welcome to nursing!!!

Another thing that you could do is look on the AANA website and they have a section where they list all the programs from different states and direct you to the school websites....Good Luck!!!
