I have a question.....What is a step down nurse? There is a job postition that states it is for a step down LVN and I dont know what that means? Can anyone help?

The definition of a stepdown unit varies from place to place, but generally is an intermediate or progressive care unit. They can be primarily cardiac or not, but patients are usually on a monitor. Usually on these units you will see drips that require more intensive monitoring than on med-surg, sometimes vents (sometimes not), etc- more unstable than a typical med-surg unit, but stable enough to transfer out of ICU/CCU.

Step down is between ICU's and regular floors like med/surg. It is like a transitional step for those patients.
