How do you determine what station someone is at? I look at the pictures in book and understand what it is, but it does not say anywhere exactly how you tell this. I assume it must be through vag. exam???

We did not go over this Tuesday have not been back to class since and we went over it in lightening speed so that all material could be taught before test. No time to try to understand and ask questions. Just venting.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Station is determined through lady partsl exam by determining the number of centimeters the presenting part of the fetus is above or below the ischial spines (on the pelvic/hip bones). If the presenting part is above the spines, the station is negative, if below, the station is positive (the number of centimeters). Good Luck!!

Thanks for your reply.

But I have another question. When doing vag. exam how do you tell where ischial spines are located. i have been told you can feel them. Is is just one of those things you know and understand once you do it? Thanks in advance.

We aren't allowed to perform vag. exams as students in our program, but from what I understand, it is fairly obvious.
