What specialty is best

I am currently a nursing student but I am interested in doing travel nursing in the future after I gain some experience. I'm curious as to what areas of nursing are most needed in travel nursing? Are there travel psych nurses? I am thinking that med/surg would be the most beneficial if travel nursing was something I wanted to do.

Specializes in ICU.

ICU and ER seem to have the greatest need, and pay more. I'm a ICU nurse with 2 years experience...plan to start traveling in January. Good luck in nursing school...it was the hardest thing I've ever done but the greatest thing I've ever done too!

E.R., ICU and Labor & Delivery are in high demand. There's SO many Med-Surg and Tele nurses out there, which is my specialty, but I'm still able to find work. Sometimes I do wish I had E.R. or ICU experience though.

I really think ER nursing is interesting. Med/Surg is my least fav, or seems to be anyway...so this as all good to know!

Specializes in Operating Room.

There seems to always have needs for specialties such as ICU, ER, OR and L&D. Just remember if you decide to travel just make sure you have at least 2 years of experience in your specialty because I have noticed a trend in agencies asking for 3 or more years of experience.

I'm a tele nurse, and we seem to get a LOT of travellers on my floor in S. Florida.. Also, in speaking with many agencies, I find there are a lot of tele jobs. It's nice because it's not quite med surg but not quite ICU! Kind of in the middle!
