Without fail... it's *always* move to the right, lean against the side wall, closer to the front. I've realized I do this subconsciously every single time I get on (and have enough room to decide).
I wonder if this can be studied and psychoanalyzed. :)

Hmmm. . .
I have never really given any thought regarding which side of the elevator I tend to stand near. The only aspect of "elevator riding" I've paid attention to is the fact that I always face the door. I virtually never face the back wall of the elevator.

almost always I move to the left when entering and put my right cheek next to the wall, so if I smile at anyone, they don't see my missing tooth! heh, but usually I like for my back to be to a wall so I stand near the back. Of course this differs if anyone else is already on..hmm..now I'm wondering

I've never paid attention to what side of the elevator I stand on, but what I find hilarious is how when we all leave the shift together we'll get in the elevator, the doors will close, then we'll stand there yakking till someone finally realizes that noone has pushed the button to go to the first floor....
Last night I just stood there with a silly grin on my face, looked at my watch and listened to everyone jabbering.....It took about two minutes!!! That is hilarious to me...we are so exhausted that when we finally get the chance to jet out of work we kind of just zone out in the elevator.:lghmky:
well... i also realize that i face the doors. :)

I stand near the buttons, so that I can hit the "close door" button when I don't see anyone entering the elevator.

XD yep, that's me too! Our elevators are slow, so every little bit I can help it along makes a difference ^_^

I never thought of this either. I tend to go to the back left corner. As I work on the top floor of the hospital (except for a storage floor above), it makes sense for me to get in the back since I tend to be first on and last off.

I stand on the side with less people...I can't stand having to stand there and have someone in my aura or touching me that I don't know. Isn't that funny...and I do that for a living...touching strangers! Guess if I had a choice in my own time...I wouldn't! LOL!
The thing that has been irritating me for the past two years since I work in a facility with an elevator is that most people don't seem to have elevator polietness anymore! People are rushing in while people are trying to leave...no one holds doors open for folks anymore, and no one waits a second to see if that cute little child would like to press the button! It just erks me to death!
I feel it is proper to wait to the side for people exiting, wait and hold the door for them, then enter...allowing common curtesy for elderly or children to go in first while still holding the door (and getting at least a nice nod or thank you for doing such for them). Then press your button or ask nicely for someone to do it that is nearby (when you are nearest to the buttons, you are the button master...just like being in the emergency exit seats on a plane...Then hold the door for folks leaving till it is your turn! How simple is that...for some reason it just doens't fly in my neck of the woods anymore...and I am in a mostly rural hospital!!!!
Oh well...guess I will just have to teach by example...LOL!

i stand on the left when alone or just another person or two. i don't lean.
if there are more than just a couple of people i gravitate to the back of the elevator.

I usually try to stand where there are less people.
Also, in relation to long days and elevator follies-I've gotten in and pushed my floors button, then someone else comes in after me and pushes their button. We stop at their floor first, and I accidentally get off on their floor with them

I tend to stand right next to where the buttons are with my back to the wall, thats if no one else is there. If someone is there and the elevator isn't too crowded, I tend to head toward the side with the buttons and put my back to the wall.
Being short, I hate my back to people and my face in others backs (if they are tall enough my face is way too close to areas that expell noxcious fumes!) . I hate the feeling of people literally breathing down my neck!
