What do you say when pts ask your opinion of docs??

So we all work with doctors that i'm sure we have questioned their judgement from time to time. And we all probably work with that doctor that we would never have as a doctor for ourselves. So what do you say when the patients ask your opinion of the docs?

" lots of people like her/him" which is usually a true statement.

This is pretty much what I say and leave it at that.....

if its a doc i like i will say so.

if its one i dont like (and really, i do like most of them) it dependson the question. if it is "do you like dr. x?" i'll say "well, he's your doctor, it matters what you think, not what i think" or such.

try to find out why they are asking. if they dont like their doctor and want to gripe about him/her, i always say that if you dont like your doctor you aren't married to htem and are perfectly welcome to change. i would never let a patient know i thought poorly of a doctor. that reflects poorly on me.

same for another nurse.

I always lie and say their doc is the best so the have confidence

Also, keep in mind that a Doc that irritates the heck out of you might be the perfect match for some other particular personality type. That's what makes our wonderful world go around.....we're all different. I have had patient's absolutely rave about docs who I wouldn't let touch me with a ten foot pole! Somehow, they must have clicked...and who am I to judge?

On the other hand, if someone is asking you your opinion about a particular doc, they must be having some type of second thoughts or doubts about their choice. In this case, as everyone stated above, encourage the patient to obtain a second opinion.
