How far are you from the 1:750 goal for healthy students?

I'm at about 1:1000, which is about the going ratio here. I have three schools. One big high school (800-ish students), one small high school (100, growing yearly to reach 200), and a small alternate school that has about 30-35 students in it.

Luckily, they're a mile from each other!

NASN Nurse to Student Ratio Toolkit

NASN presents this toolkit, reflecting the most current resources and information on this topic. It is NASN's goal to continually support efforts to improve school nurse-to-student ratios

Be sure to check the materials if making presentations to PTA, school board members or administrators, and have them in front of you if talking to the media. Share with reporters and legislators, adminsitrators, and and all child health stakeholders.

According to an National Association of School Nurses (http://www.nasn.org) study 2007 using a nationally representative sample of schools:

Average RN - student ratio is 1:1151 - it varies widely from state to state and within some states. New England states and Delaware have the best ratios, Utah the worst, close to 1:6000 students.

Average number of schools served, 2.2

44% of schools in US have a full time RN in one building

74% of schools have an RN at least 2 hours per week.

14% of schools have no health personnel at all - all health care is performed by teachers, secretaries, prinicpals etc
