What does "compact state" mean??

i am doing due diligence on travel nursing and i have seen this reference a few times.....i am sure that it has something to do with licensing...i would appreciate someone shedding some light on this matter....

Compact is about 20 states that have "compacted" together so that you can work in those states without having to get a new license in the other state. So let's say that you keep a home base in Idaho. Because Idaho is part of the nursing compact, this allows you to work in the other compact states with your Idaho license. If you were going to do this, always contact the state you will be going to - let's say AZ - because they may have paperwork, etc, that you might have to complete.

I have never had to complete "other" paperwork. My residence is in Arizona, I have worked in Idaho, Mississippi, and fixing to go to Iowa, and never have had to notify the state board where I am going. When you get to the other hospital, they will ask to see your original compact license and that's it.

I actually ran into this - can't remember now, I had to pay a small fee or fill something out - in D.C. Someone else told me that they had to fill out some kind of paperwork for AZ. It was a while ago. That's all I know. Things may have changed, but I always call in advance and cover my butt! lol If something bad can happen, it will happen to me, if you know what I mean? LOL
