What questions should I ask?

Published

I am currently working in a position that I am very unhappy with and have chosen to search other avenues. I am very gunshy because my current employer made promises that were never intended and made it look like this would be a perfect match for me, when in reality, the way the employees talk, the way they treat their patients, the way they treat one another are totally against my personal beliefs. It is a very abusive environment. So now I am very gunshy.

I had an excellant interview with a Surgeons Office yesterday and I feel like this is a prayer that is going to be answered for me. They called me back and the Doctor wants to meet with me. I am so excited and want to land this job so bad. I love the office and what they stand for, I love the ethics they practice, I can relate to the staff, the office manager and feel this really is my future home.

I just really want to make sure this Doctor and I will get along. There are 4 Surgeons in the office and ofcourse I will be working with one and will also have a MA as well. I will be doing heavy triage for him, setting up his surgeries, working hand and hand with him on his clinical days, etc. The office manager spoke very highly of him. I do know that his current nurse will be working part time with me until I am ready to spread my wings. That right there told me that they do care and will be a smooth transition for me rather then being thrown in with no idea what the heck is going on.

How do I convince myself and him that we are going to work well together?

What questions should I ask him to help me decide if this a good match?

I would ask the physician to tell me about the best nurse he ever worked with and why he valued that nurse. Its a nice open ended question and could tell you a lot about what he or she is looking for.

Ew, I am writing that one down. I like it.
