What is OR nursing all about?

Hi, my name is Shaughn and I am a senior nursing student at Umass Lowell. I was thinking about doing my preceptorship in the Fall in the operating room, but really don't know much about it at all. What are some of the duties and responsibilities of and OR nurse? What does a typical day look like or what are some day to day skills that nurses in the OR do? What does it mean to be first scrub or what does it mean to "circulate"? I also wanted to know what does an initial assessment of a patient consist of when a patient arrives to the operating room? If anyone could please help me out I would greatfully appreciate it.
