Hi there! I've been reading your posts for a few months now and finally got an account. I'm really having trouble with my options..I am currently finishing up my pre reqs at a CC..i just need micro left. I want to transfer to a Cal State to get my BSN , but would like to know, if I get accepted into the schools and not their nursing programs, what would I do? go to private school?Just wait? What would I major in? pre nursing? what if I have all my pre reqs done...what classes would I take..would I minor in something? or not go to school at all? please help me=/. Your answers are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Jasmine

Which cal states are you applying to?
Alright, if you get accepted to the school and denied to the nursing school then you just stay there and apply to the program the next time around.
I STRONGLY urge you to apply to as many BSN programs as possible.
Like for example: I am applying to CSULB, CSULA, and CSUSB BSN programs. I am also applying to all 3 schools this fall to enter next fall.
You boost your chances by applying to more schools. If you didn't get int any nursing programs but you get into the schools then what you can do is just attend one of them and apply the next year. I personally would NOT do that because lets say you denied to the program to the 3 schools mentioned above, but you get accepted to the schools. I personally wouldn't waste my time attending a cal state if I wasn't entering as being in the school. I mean if don't get accepted anywhere, you can just apply to some other major, get your B.S./B.A. and then do a entry level masters or ABSN program then. Or waste tons of $$ and apply to private BSN programs.
Totally up to you.
But as I mentioned before, apply to many BSN programs, not just one. And work hard on getting the best grade you can in your pre reqs.
Good Luck
I'm applying to CSUB, CSULA, CSULB, SDSU and a few other ones this fall for next fall...I kept going bath and forth and trying to figure out why would I want to go to a Cal state and waste money if I'm not even in their nursing program. but you're right..It'd be a waste to me too... I also just don't want to sit around and wait...thats where the private schools come in.=/. whats your back up plan if you don't get into those three schools? ABSN?
Oh wow that is pretty spread out...where do you live?
I would also add CSUSB to your list if you want. My cousin gradated there with her BSN, good school just ok area. They have the same requirements as CSULB and CSULA, so it wouldn't hurt adding that to your list :)
Anyway so your applying this fall for next fall for CSULA? To enter fall for CSULB and CSUSB you would be applying January 2012. I don't know if you knew...
All you need is micro? Are you taking this fall then I presume? So when December 2011 comes, you will be done with everything? Me too. All I have left is o-chem/biochem that I am taking this fall.
As I said, I wouldn't go waste money and time, waiting at a university that didn't accept you into the program. Unless you go in and do some easy major like english or something, then you can go do EL-MSN or ABSN program. That route would still be another 2 years to complete a bachelors and then getting into a program and getting your RN license in another 1-2 years. Thats 3-4 years wasted!
My back up would be (since CSULA is the only school I am applying to that requires you to apply a year in advance) when Jan 2012 comes and I am applying for CSULB and CSUSB for fall 2012, I am also applying to a few ADN programs too JUST IN CASE lol
As long as I keep going the way that I am (and the schools don't change their requirements) I hope I get into all programs I apply for. I am taking micro and physio right now, A average in both classes, then fall comes I need at least a B in o-chem/biochem (preferably an A, and chem is one of my favorites:cool:) to be at least be pretty competitive. From what the history from this board, and friends who go there/graduated there.
I am not bragging, I just am trying to stay confident, cause if I don't the negative Nancy in me comes out
I wouldn't do private unless you absolutely had to!They are expensive, and your not guaranteed a job, so how you going to pay those huge loans off without a job?
I am not liking applying to ADN programs myself but (no offense to ADN students, or their programs, which are pretty good) but CA is just not hiring ADN's, let alone BSN. Having a BSN at least gets me ahead of all the new grad ADN people so that is at least something, even though I am still not guaranteed a job.
Nursing has just gotten to the point where too many schools are pumping out new grads for a nonexistent shortage. No one is stopping these schools from pumping them out and now the market is pretty saturated. I don't know if there will ever be a shortage but definitely not in SOCAL.

I am applying for CSUB for Spring 2012 so maybe I can help with that particular school. I take it you are aware that CSUB has a point system for basing your admittance on. You get points for GPA, interview, TEAS score, and other minor things. Also, they highly recommend you attend an info session about their process bc if you mess up on anything (application, etc.) they will throw out your admission. If you don't get in, you are allowed to reapply as many times as you want. Of course, your goal would be to figure out where you need to raise your points. If your gpa is not good, you may have a hard time getting into CSUB. Hope this helps

While I'm not too familiar with your area, DEFINITELY apply to multiple schools if you can. If you're accepted to any of them, great. If you're accepted to more than one, you can always turn them down... While you may have some expense in applying to all of them, it does maximize your chances of getting accepted. Also, make sure you have ALL your Lower Division GE done... and that it'll transfer in. You want to be able to just roll right in and start the program with just the program coursework and any Upper Division GE needed. Take summer school if you need to, just to knock some more Upper Div. GE out of the way once you're in, if possible. This way you'll minimize the number of semesters you spend as a Junior/Senior/5th year Senior while you complete the BSN.
