28 years and counting, and I still struggle with rhythm strip interpretation. I've overcome so many barriers here in very recent years, yet I still don't feel I know what I need to know in order to function competently without the added apprehension in monitored areas. And nope, this wasn't taught in my nursing programs (LPN, ASN, and definitely not BSN) other than just skimming the basics, which I have a pretty good grasp on. It's those, early entry, re-entry, junctional, etc., that leaves me completely dumbfounded. But, I'm working on it...

As a new RN starting on your first day what is the one thing you wished you knew? Because we are not built to retain all the information that we are thrown in nursing school, it is highly impossible to memorize the whole ten pounds of literature that we read in one book. We are taught to apply the knowledge and with time and experience that's how we learn, yes. But, I would really like to know what is the one thing you wished you knew at "that moment" on your first day...

I am a new RN on the block, yet to work. Doctors orders: Bed Rest.
So now as I lay here I wonder what kind of shenanigans would I be getting my self in, my skills need to be worked on, I need to gain experience, I want to get my hand dirty, and feel useful and go do what i was meant to go do! All in time I guess. I'll go read some of my text books to keep my mind busy, but since there is no guide to one-on-one nursing for the workforce, what better way than to ask my fellow experienced nurses about their experiences!
