What should the nurse-patient ratio be in long-term care facilities?

Honestly, I think ten should be the limit. I work with over 40 as of now and I have barely any time for any of my patients, especially with all the other nonsense work they require of me.

I know this is an incredibly old post but how are all of you doing now? Still in LTC?

I am a new nurse working LTC with 29 patients at night, and sometimes more if we're short a Nurse. I've been covering some day shifts as well and it's just maddening how to get the heavy med pass done while also addressing concerns your patients have for you.

I had other nurses tell me I need to work on my prioritization which I totally agree but I am unsure how to get better without ignoring my patient's or telling them "I can't do that for you right now" if it's not urgent.
