I was introduced by a friend of mine to senior in-home care/caregiving. When an opportunity to take care of an elderly lady in her apartment for 9 days came, I jumped on it. It didn't feel like work, it felt like taking care of a family member. As time went by, and being exposed to other clients/patients in different settings: nursing homes, ALF, in-home, hospitals, etc, and seeing all kinds of nursing skills performed, I knew I wanted to be in this field. I knew how to empty and do foley care, colostomy care, wound care, med administration before I even got certified as nurse assistant. I became very curious, and wanted the formal education, so I went for LPN program....FF....now RN program. No regrets at all. Growing up I thought freelance writing, performing arts, or anything with Communications, but the minute I worked w/ a patient, I knew that's where my calling was! Nurses rock!
