What made you want to become an operating room nurse?

Was it the pay? 1:1 patient ratio? Love blood and gore? The technical aspects of the position?

Specializes in OR, Nursing Professional Development.

I didn't start out wanting to go into OR nursing- I more fell into it. I hated med/surg in nursing school and knew that was never going to be my niche. Thought I would like peds or L&D- then I did those clinicals and realized they weren't for me either. My senior practicum, I was assigned to PACU and had the opportunity to follow a patient from admission through discharge from recovery. I liked the teamwork, I liked the no patient family aspect, and I liked the limited patient interaction (I happen to be quite the introvert in person). The extra pay (base salary is the same for every nurse at my facility) brought in by being on call and getting called in is nice- makes it easier to save up for vacations (and this girl loves her vacations!).
