What kind of pep talk do you give yourself?

Published

I knew that marketing was the hard part. Last Friday, after 15 follow up calls (is everyone always on the phone?) and ten pre calls, I reached my limit! I did speak to one attorney, who was very attentive, but had no medical cases at this time.

I took a deep breath and did something with my kids for the rest of the afternoon. Just wondering what others do when you are feeling discouraged or :banghead: I did get my first return phone call today! We all high fived each other. But this attorney only does bankruptcy, he did tell me to talk to his partner does all of the personal injury. So you know who will be getting on the phone again tomorrow.

Just wondering what other RNs do when they first begin to hone their marketing skills.:nuke:

hi, runningmom1

very good questions and valid concerns.

i knew that marketing was the hard part. last friday, after 15 follow up calls (is everyone always on the phone?) and ten pre calls, i reached my limit! i did speak to one attorney, who was very attentive, but had no medical cases at this time.

some days it's that way. don't be discouraged with this, however. fridays are notorious for bad days to market to attorneys (at least in my experience). many are scrambling to leave the office early, are out of the office, etc.

i took a deep breath and did something with my kids for the rest of the afternoon.

and, that was perfect! exactly what i would have done. leave it be. it's friday afterall. enjoy the children, your family and start anew on monday.

that's how it works, too. you "back into" another contact. partners within a group or cold leads where you can get a reference to another attorney.

just wondering what others do when you are feeling discouraged...

this is quite normal to become discouraged and sad to say, is where many lncs give up. you sound like you've chosen to continue and that's where you will be successful.

just a few tips for self-motivation:

  • keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.
  • keep positive people around you. ones who can remind you of your passion for this career choice. cheerleaders, if you will. you do not need anyone who gives hollow advice, but ones who genuinely tell you the truth and are emotionally supportive.
  • seek out those with whom you can bounce off ideas regarding marketing techniques; like here at allnurses.com:up:. join your local chapter of the aalnc and network with others like you.
  • keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.
  • do not dwell on past failures. look to the future.
  • do not sit around in baggy pants and old worn-out tops. causally dress the part for work everyday. have a well-lit environment. let the sun shine in.
  • keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.
  • do something nice for yourself at least once a week.
  • keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.
  • have handy, a motivational note or quote that you can see every single day. tape your favorite to the bathroom mirror. use a coffee cup that has a saying or icon on it that makes you smile!!
  • do not procrastinate - set goals and deadlines
  • try not to work if/when you have problems at home. they have priority.
  • if you feel overwhelmed, stop. place it all away and start afresh the next day.
  • keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.

oh, did i mention...

keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.

hang in there, runningmom1. you are headed in the right direction. and, come here for more pep talk!! we'll keep the light on for ya.

Thanks for the question and the answer. I needed this too.:)

Thinking about this- do you have an opinion on what a good day for marketing to attorneys would be? With my next round, since they'll basically be cold calls to area attorneys, I plan to send my intro letter, then for some of them I think I will bite the bullet and do drop in visits and the rest do phone calls. Have you noticed a good day for visits/phone calls?

IMO? I've seen Tuesdays and Wednesdays as good "cold call" days. Same for phone contacts. Seems in my area that Thursdays are court days. But, that doesn't always hold true all the time.

You'll find out through trial and error which days work best for you.

Thanks siri! Good information for my battle plan!

You are welcome, wooh!!

I bit the bullet today and did my first cold calls. One went very well and the paralegal was very interested. Met no attorneys, but introduced myself to the paralegals/secretaries. Basically, I just wanted to prove to myself that I could do this. Just think of how you enter a room when you are caring for a patient and are going to meet the family and do teaching or whatever. Transfer that feeling of confidence and skill when walking into the attorney's office. At least that is what I tried to do, no sweaty palms.!

You have the right mindset, runningmom1. Good job. Breaking the ice with the legal staff prior to meeting attorneys is always a good idea.

I GOT MY FIRST CASE!

The interview went so well, it was worth those 50 phone calls.

Now, I just have to find a life planner and expert witnesses. Darn, I was hoping it would be medical records, something I was more sure about.
