Hi Everyone. Brand new here. :)
So I've been thinking about starting some kind of nursing career for the past 9months to a year. And I finally decided to try out our local community college.
What my question is, what does the Practical Nursing certificate mean?
What is my 'title' when I complete that?
What kind of jobs could I get w/ that certificate?
Would I be able to apply to any health jobs while taking the program, if so what kind?
I realize I have to prereq's before I start the program. Oh and I wanted to mention I've never gone to any college programs before. I requested an information kit from the schools website, so hopefully I'll get that soon. I really need to know if we can even afford me to go. Will they help you out to get funding or are u on your own to find it?
Here is a link to my local community college program:

I tried searching this forum, for my questions, but i couldn't seem to find any direct answers. :)
Thanks for any help! :heartbeat

with this program you will be a lvn. in nursing there are lvn (requires a year program), rn (requires a 2 year program) and then bsn (which is a rn but with a bachelor degree). and of course that doesn't count the pre-reqs.
being a lvn you would probably work in either a hospital or a nursing home. in the area that i live lvn mainly work med/surg because the "specialty" areas like icu, er, nicu etc. require you to have your rn.
while you are going through the program you could always get certified and become a cna which is a certified nurses aid. they provide care to the patient like changing beds, assisting with feeding, giving baths etc.
you can sign up to get financial aid. first you will have to fill out a fafsa form and have that sent to your schools of choice. when you fill that out you will need your tax info. the site is www.fafsa.ed.gov .
hope that helps!
Thank you for replying! :)
About how long does the cna course take? Just curious. I'm guessing I could just ask about that when i do sit down w/ someone at the school about attending.
The CNA course at my college is 2 weeks but some are 5-8 weeks. Really just depends on the program.
I didn't think it was that short of a course. I was thinking more like 6 months. lol. I really should look into doing that. thank you so much for your information!
