What do you do to keep up at night to study?

What is it that you all do to help keep yourselves up at night? I usually make a pot of coffee around 7 or 8 pm. Which by this time, I am thinking of going to bed, lol.

I have done a few all nighters. Coffee...lots of coffee. Also a all night Denny's is good, because they will kick you out if you fall asleep.

I don't try to stay up too late. When I get real tired, I go to sleep for a few hours. Even 3 hours sleep makes all the difference. I'd far rather go to be at 11 and get up at 2 than to try to stay up 'til 2 and then sleep 'til 6.

Ahh-Aprilhere and Mixy-

Thank you for your caffeine pool replies-I was starting to feel like an idiot...LOL...just jokin'

i take a 1 - 2 hr nap when i get home from school. this allows me to stay up until 3 am. if i have to pull an "all nighter" i take a few 15 - 30 min naps until it's time to go to class. also, i have found that starbucks frappuccino (cold, in glass bottle) keeps me awake for studying and throughout the day after staying up all night.

I saw a really cool documentary about sleep on Discovery Health or some such channel. It explained how one of the things your brain does during sleep is process the information you've learned throughout the day. That's why we dream about the events of the day, and Biology or Algebra! But seriously, I've been using this to my advantage. I'm taking Microeconomics, one of my pre-reqs, and It's not coming as easily as I would like. So the most challenging concepts, I study/read for an hour or so right before bed, then when I get up, I go back and do my study guide questions and study some more. I swear it seems to make more sense after I've "slept on it"!

Try it!

I'm sure it also has to do with simple fatigue. Studying something during the last hour before you sleep is certain to be less efficient than during the first hour after you wake up.

Possibly, but I am usually not too fatigued when I go to bed...I have a fairly regular sleep schedule, and I have found this to work well for me. Plus, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed most mornings, usually. Maybe it's a placebo effect, but If it's helping me pass Microeconomics, I"m totally ok with that!
