What to do? Is this Defamation of character?

Long story short (you can read my previous post if you want more details)

I am a new grad RN that started out in the NICU. I have been with this company for 3 years as an LPN.  I felt like management was never on my side and digging for stuff to have me let go during orientation. She would believe ANYTHING my preceptors said and I unfortunately didn't want to appear childish and say anything negative about my preceptors.

I ended up not completing my own orientation with the unit and am now having to file for FMLA due to family concerns (so, I get to stay with my company and also look for another job while on FMLA)

I was told by multiple people that this one preceptor I had was going around saying that she got me fired and I was doing all of this stuff wrong, how she was concerned to leave me alone, etc.

my question is, why would she think I was let go unless management said something? (Which, is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL) there was no need for this manager to tell her anything about my case.

I was going to leave my unit quietly and respectfully, but now I am concerned about my future job prospects within the company. If it's easy for this manager to say something and then have my old preceptor spread these lies about me.....do you think it's worth going to HR? I've never had a verbal, a write up, etc.

I unfortunately need assistance looking for another unit and I have reached out to the DON for my unit  and my FMLA has not been approved yet and this previous manager isn't willing to help me at all and has even stopped replying to my emails.

I think I'm going to speak to the DON, have her assist me with finding another unit, make sure my FMLA is approved and then go to HR.

has anyone had to deal with this? Do you think it's worth even going to HR? I hate drama to I don't want to stir the pot.....but when you have already cost me my position and now potentially others on top of that??

I wouldn't worry about what multiple people are saying.  I think you need to focus on the facts.  Why is your FMLA not approved yet.  Start there.  Doesn't sound like you are happy at this job, I'd look for another.  IF your manager has stopped answering your calls and emails go over her head until you get the answers you need.  Meanwhile I would start looking elsewhere for employment.
