I thought it would be fun to do this each week as sort of a reflective mental break. I just finished my first week. There was a ton of information to go over, but a couple of things stood out for me. What interesting or unusual things did you learn this week? Here's my short list:-How to remove an artificial eye-How to properly was a lady parts -Never cut a diabetic's toenails-Quell is no longer used to treat lice because it contained neurotoxins- Phantom limb is not only psychological. The nerves are still sending messages to the brain that the missing limb is damaged-analgesics and anesthetics are fascinating

Well, it is all interesting. I am just starting nursing school this week after finishing my pre-reqs this last year. This week we had clinical at a nursing home and I was on the dementia floor. I was just reading up on Alzheimer's and dementia right now. I just think it is interesting what happens to the brain as we age. Although, I do not know all that much about it yet, it was certainly quite the experience to see it and how to work with people who are aging. I am sure I will be learning much more about this topic while I am at clinical here.

One article mentioned how difficulty sleeping as we age is the beginning sign for Alzheimer's disease as there are plaque build ups in the brain causing the sleep problems. Article- BBC News - Bad sleep may predict Alzheimer's, says study

I think the most interesting thing I have learned is about adrenergic drugs and adrenergic blockers, cholinergic drugs and anti-cholinergics.

This is a great thread! I just finished week 5. We learned med calculations, iv rates, sterile dressing changes, clean dressing changes, range of motion, transfers, and charting. Next week is catheters in lab and more dressing changes.
