I am currently a sophomore in high school, but I already know I am going to go into nursing. I just don't know what I want to do. There is an option to take a Health Occupations course my junior and senior year, and I really want to do it. The only problem is that the course is at a different high school (In my district, just not at my home school) and it is a two hour block class with one hour to get lunch and get back to my home high school. So that takes three hours out of my day. It is required for me to take a math, science, and english credit my junior year, so that takes three more hours of my day, leaving me with only one hour left (7 hour days). It is also required for me to take a Health class and an IT Systems class, which are both semester long classes, so that would be my whole day. Now here is where the problem starts. If I took the Health Occ, I wouldn't have time to do the classes I want to take. I want to take AP Environmental Sciences and Band, which are both year long classes. I just want to know that if I took the Health Occ, would it be worth giving up Band and APES? Because I am so conflicted right now. And on top of all that, I don't know what kind of nurse I want to be. I know I want to work with young children, but I also want to do missionary work. What classes would I have to take in college to be a missionary nurse? And would it be better to just be a normal pediatric nurse, or a missionary nurse? Please help me, I don't know what to do.

The Health Occupations class is not a necessary step towards becoming a nurse. I wouldn't worry about it. Take the classes you want to take and enjoy your year. You will have plenty of time after high school to focus on becoming a nurse. Just enjoy high school. You don't need to take anything special to be a missionary nurse.Just go to school and get your degree.During school you will be exposed to several different areas of nursing. This will help you decide what path you want to take. The great thing about nursing is that you don't have to stay in one speciality. You could do pediatric nursing for a while and then missionary nursing later on if you want to.
Thank you, this helps a lot. I still want to do it because you can be a Certified Nurse Assistant by the the time you graduate, but I also want to do my other classes. I'm still thinking it over, but this has really helped.

I'm I'm my first year of nursing school and I was conflicted with something similar and honestly don't stress about it! I didn't take health occupations at my school and I'm doing great in nursing school with good grades and I don't regret not going! Enjoy your high school years! You'll learn everything in nursing school. I want to be a pediatric nurse as well so good luck to you!!!
