Hi there,

I am a Canadian citizen, just received my Visa screen certificate and a RN job offer letter. What should I do next before I can work in NY, US?

Is the Visa screen certificate equivalent to a work authorization? Where do I get the non-immigrate work visa from, the boarder or the immigration office? Thanks!

I think you get your TN when at the border which enables you to work although you will have to apply for SSN. Check out the Canadian forum there should be something there on TN. The vsc just means you meet US immigration requirements does not allow you to work

I am Candian and working in USA since 7 years with TN visa. Every Year I get the same job offer letter and go to Border and get the TN visa without any problem. Just take your job offer letter and other original certificat to border and ask them that you need TN visa. Do not go to any Lawyer, they will charge you a lot of money for nothing. Let me know if you need more info.

Good luck

Thanks! I've already got my TN visa two days ago at the border. However, I find to go to the border every year just to renew the TN visa is kinda trouble some, especially when you work full time and not coming back to Canada on a regular basis. Plus, for each job you are getting, you need a different TN visa for it. Can I just use the same visa screen certificate with other documents and go to an immigration office in US to apply for a green card instead, without a lawyer?
