What should I reasonably expect? Peds Office LPN

Nurses New Nurse

Hi, I have been offered a position I am extremely interested in. I am a new grad, taking NCLEX on Aug 19.

I was allowed the opportunity to follow a LPN in the Peds office I interviewed twice for. I spent 3 hours just checking it out. Great opportunity. Lousy initial pay. I have not negotiated yet. I wanted to make sure they really wanted me.

Anyhow, during the interview the manager told me they usually start new grads out around $11. I know that is extremely low and plan on speaking with her again this week. I would like to tell her I enjoyed my experience, and am thrilled to be offered the position but was hoping for a salary in the range of $----and $-----. I don't want to seem pushy (I really want the job) but I don't want to get walked on either. I really don't want less than $13 but asking for $2 when I have no experience seems over the top....?????

Job is 9-5 with one Sat. a month (only 3 hrs.) and perfect for me. don't want to shoot myself in the foot! Will someone give me a realistic approach on how to handle this???? thank you....amanda

I have been an LPN for two years now, and work in a clinic. I just switched from adult family practice to the ped side, which I do like! I started out making 11.62/hour for about 9 months. Then received a 3% market increase, then about a year later, received another market adjustment, so now I am making 14.40/hour. I do live about two minutes from the clinic though, so the lesser pay I figured was worth the gas I would have been spending. Because I am going back to school to get my RN in a couple of weeks, I am going part time at the clinic, and because I chose to forego all of my benefits and vacation/holiday time, it bumped me to around 16.50/hour.
