Sunday night, I was trying to orient my Alzheimer's pt. He thought he was all alone and I was like, no, I'm your nurse, I'll be here with you all night.
He's like really? when do you leave?
7 am.
Oh. Man. That's horrible. I'm sorry.
Oh, no, really. I have a great job. I only work three nights a week.

I got him settled down, but it kept me thinking the rest of the night. So here's the list of reasons I love my job, just b/c it kept bugging me:
1) I only work 3 nights a week
2) People thank me for sticking them with sharp objects
3) I always have an amazing story to tell
4) I get to tell Doctors what I want them to do and (for the most part), they take my opinion under consideration
5) I tell men and women twice my age what to do and (for the most part) they listen and respect my opinion
6) I get flirted with on a weekly if not a nightly basis
7) free medical advice
8) frequent flyers greet me as an old friend -- even if I don't remember them
9) I'm allowed to work in "pajamas" and sneakers
10) social norms don't apply to me -- I can talk to someone I just met about the most personal things and see (and touch) their most private areas without being crass
11) I get four nights off a week
12) I can get up to five nights off in a row without using paid leave -- sometimes as often as twice a month!
These are just a few. Anyone else?
