Hi everyone, I'm new to allnurses. Well I have a question for everyone. I am currently enrolled in a Master of Social Work Program and I only need my intership to complete my degree but I cannot start it until Janurary 2008. The problem is that I was accepted to a nursing program at West suburban college of nursing (if you have any info on this school that would help me decide please let me know) that starts august 2008. So I would have to leave my MSW program to start nursing school without possibly coming back to my MSW program to finish it up due to money concerns. What should I do, stick with my MSW program or go to nursing school? Help!!

This is going to be your ultimately your decision. I cant decide whats best for you, whats going to make you happy, only you can decide that.

What were the reasons for you going into social work?

What were the reasons for you applying to nursing school?

List the pros and cons of each, I dont know if you follow a certain faith but pray. In life we're going to come across tough decisions. We all have a purpose here, whats yours?

Im going to assume your internship isnt until January 2009, if thats all you need to finish then finish it. See if its for you, I want to be biased and say go for nursing since we all know this country needs more nurses. In reality, I want you to be happy. If you dont find it in social work, then theres always going to be another nursing school.

I think social workers are amazing people so I wouldn't want to sway you away. Will this job make you happy? Is the pay good enough to live the lifestyle you desire? Is there job security?

I personally wouldn't do social work because my heart would get way too wrapped up in those poor children. I also heard the pay isn't great and you're overworked. But again, social workers are amazing people.

Follow your heart. Meditate on it.

Good luck.
