Who knows anything about Mercy in Redding, Rideout-Fremont, Woodland, or any other hospitals in northern cali...do you think it's a good place for new grads to grow? I'm especially interested in medsurg......Is it hecktic in their medsurg? How about the staff...do they eat their young? or nuture them?
What about their orientation? some are only six-weeks....do you guys think that's enough? I mean being a new grad I obviously don't know...but you guys who are working as nurses should have an idea.....do they tolerate other races at Mercy Redding?
Help please...feeling comfortable, respected, and being guided is more important to me than the money..let me know if you know anything about northern hospitals...

I don't know of any hospital in CA that doesn't "tolerate" other races, I don't think you'll have to worry about that. Unless you're a green Martian, they're still pretty unusual 'round these parts so may cause a few raised eyebrows.
As a new grad the ideal internship would be 8-12 weeks. 6 weeks is bare-bones minimum, not the best. I don't know anything about the places you mentioned, but medsurg would be a great place to start.
Thanks Tazzi...

I am still in school so I can't really give you a totally honest answer. But I do know that during my clinicals at Shasta Regional Medical Center in Redding they are really nice. Almost all of the nurses love to help students out.
I did work there 10 years ago but that was just in dietary. And at that time, everyone was really nice too.

I have worked for mercy for about 6 years in lab and rotated through mercy gen here in sacramento, I have to say that I would never work for them again. Sutter Gen on the other hand is an awesome hospital and its where I hope to work when I finish NS in may of next year.
Just my thought, P2
good luck!

Rideout is a hole -- especially the ER. So is the Mercy General ER. Woodland is a nice quiet little hospital -- the ER there was very nice.
Dunno about the others. My experience has only been in the ER.
