If you fail to meet the terms of probation, including working as an RN, the Board of Nursing (BON) or Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) can extend your probation, impose additional restrictions, suspend your license, or even revoke your license.

It's imperative that you land a nursing job.

Let's talk about getting a job while on probation:

  • Have you applied to jobs in all different kinds of settings? Skilled nursing, nurse educator, community health, clinics, remote positions, dialysis? Put all your efforts into securing employment- consider job searching your full-time job for now.
  • Adopt a professional and transparent mindset.
  • Discuss the disciplinary action in interviews, focusing on lessons learned and commitment to ethical nursing.
  • Put yourself in the employer's shoes- why should they hire you? Anticipate what you will be asked and prepare strategies to answer questions, highlighting dedication to patient safety and professional standards.

Check out the Nurses Recovery and Licensure: Criminal Background forums if either fit for additional support.

Very best wishes,
