What GPA do you REALLY need for accelerated programs?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I graduated from a UC with a 3.6, didn't do many prerequisites, and the ones I did I got mostly B's in (I was a marketing major) and am looking into the APU and Cal State accelrated programs.

Can anyone who has been successful in getting into any of these tell me if this is competitive? I have volunteered in hospitals in the past, but not for a few years... will that matter? My job is not in healthcare currently.

thanks!

I've only applied to and been accepted by 1 accelerated program (but that's good enough for me!) so I don't know how accurate my analysis o it is but it seems like they weigh your prerequisite classes well over your overall GPA.

My undergraduate GPA (not counting a school I went to for 1 semester and failed just about everything at) was a 2.79. My prerequisite GPA is a 4.0.

I'd say really focus your efforts on the prerequisites you have left to do. You have a great undergraduate GPA, and bumping up your prerequisite GPA will make you even more competitive.

If you work in healthcare, I am not sure that volunteering in healthcare is that necessary unless you want to shadow in a specific area that you think you're interested in. I shadow/volunteer with a nurse practitioner who does clinic work and some home visits for people with HIV. It was not something I'd thought I'd be interested in (didn't think I'd hate it, just not love it) but I've really learned a lot and have been able to apply my science prerequisite knowledge.
