Specializes in New Grad.

Hi, I am a new grad and I am considering trying to get into ER nursing. I have not prepped to get into this specific area of nursing yet and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good basic ER nursing textbook or review book? Do you guys like SHeehys? Or the ER Nursing Made Incredibly Easy perhaps? Please let me know what books those of you more seasoned ER nurses or teachers may recommend :)

Specializes in Emergency, Cardiac, PAT/SPU, Urgent Care.

I liked the Sheehy Principles and Practice book. I actually used that book to help prepare me for the CEN exam, also. Great reference.

Specializes in ER, OR, PACU, TELE, CATH LAB, OPEN HEART.

I use core curriculum. Also, like the "Quick Facts" series as well as "Made Incredibly Easy" series. You need to look through several books and find what works best for you and your learning style.

Good Luck. ER is a fabulous speciality. Never get bored, ALWAYS something to learn new.

I found that the ER Nursing Made Incredibly Easy was a solid and well rounded resource for emergency nursing. It is rather thick, but you can go directly to the area of interest. Welcome to ER Nursing...a job you will never regret.

Specializes in ED, psych, burn ICU, hospice.

I like EMERGENCY NURSING MADE INCREDIBLY EASY . I also like CRITICAL CARE & EMERGENCY NURSING by Schumacher & Chernecky . But, there is also nothing like some good 'ole basic life support...know it! Know it like the back of your hand. All the fancy advanced life support stuff does not mean a thing unless you have mastered the basics. So, really read your CPR book ...and your ACLS book ...and your PALS book ...and your TNCC book .
