What does the French Nursing School have to send to CGFNS for the CES?

Hi again,

I recently applied for the CGFNS exam online. I was graduated as a RN in Paris, France (hopital de la Croix Saint Simon) in 97. I just sent the CGFNS form for the CES to my nursing school. The problem is, they don't know what to do with it. It is a small school and they never dealt with that, at least not since they have their new director. It seems that they don't have anything in their archives about their previous students. They don't even have my diploma number! I do have the file they gave me when I graduated. It has the hours spent in each hospital, along with the section of the hospital and the internship evaluation form for each of them, however it doesn't say anything about the classroom hours I spent in the school. The shcool is telling me that they think it might be a branch of the health minister (DRASS) that might have to fill in the form. However, it is not what the form says.

So here are my questions:

1) If the school just fills in the CGFNS form with the required classroom and internship hours to get graduated, would that be enough?

2) Or does the CGFNS require some documents specifically under my name?

3) If so, is there any french nurse out there who can give me some tips on where to get the proper documents?

4) I have read on this forum people mentioning about a transcript that the nursing school shoud send. What is it exactly?

5) With the form that the school has to send to the CGFNS, do I have to join the file they gave me when I graduated? I hope not because it has about 100 pages, and everything is in french, it would cost me a LOT of money to translate all of that!

6) If I do have to send this file, can I mail it be mailed as it is (in French) and have the CGFNS translate it for me, since they have their own translator?

Sorry, for all those questions, but I am getting nervous since I got that email from my nursing school, so I have to tell them what to do.

Thanks for your help,

Stephane

Hi Stephane,

I'm not french but european:) so will try to answer some of your questions.

Your nursing school need to send that form and they have to fill out the hours you've done. If they don't know how many you've done actually, then they can fill in the minimal required hours according to french law/european guidelines in each of the areas.

Because those are hours you must have done to get the diploma. If they want they can copy those guidelines and send them as well.

The problems with that might be that some areas are "can do" but not necessarily required, I'm not sure about your training in France.

About transcripts, some schools issue transcripts= hours you've done (theory and practice) when you are finished with your training or require it, what can be very useful, because as you can see student folders are not kept very long unfortunatly.

About the language, I believe they can send this in french, if they are not able to translate it, you might need to pay CGNFS an additional fee for translation, look at the CGFNS website under faqs, it's answered there.

Your goverment will later need to verify your licence, not for CES, but for Visascreen.

hope that helps?

Hi Guillaume,

I noticed you tried to respond to my thread and it was probably erased from the forum because you replied in french. That's the rule: only in english. However I would be very interested to find out what you had to say, plus I would be happy to have a connection with a feench nurse here in the US; So if you can reply to that post again (in english :), I would really appreciate it. Thanks,
