What floor of the hospital is best to work on?

I'm going to be starting a pct training program at a local hospital soon. When I'm finished I will have to pick a shift and dept. from the available openings. I was just looking for some opinions on the best dept./floor to work on as a pct.

Depends on what it is that you like or can see yourself doing. Beleive it or not I am one of the Tech's who hates OB/GYN. Couldn't stand it in clinical's have no desire to be an OB nurse and have absolutely no desire to work full time, part time, or PRN on the OB unit...But I do love ER and ICU. More so because I am taking Med/Surg and because I get bored really quickly; I need something to keep me on my toes. Before you make a sound decision go visit some of the units, talk to some of the techs, see what type of job duties that they have, find out the level of acuity the patients you will be caring for will be (determines how much work you will be in for; high acuity level patients require alot of care, constant vitals, monitoring, alot of I's & O's, glucose monitoring etc.) If the hospital has a behavior/mental health unit go check it out; there is usually not alot of footwork or lifting but there will be the suicide checks etc. Hope this helps and good luck
