What are your favorite types of surgeries or procedures to work on?

Published

CRNAs, what kinds of surgeries (or other anesthesia-related procedures) are your favorite to do? What are your least favorite? Why?

Wow tough one.

I think its the surgeon more than the surgery.

I guess depending on my mood

I like scopes, that whole keeping people right on the edge of deep asleep but still spontaneously breathing... Sometimes I HATE scopes.

I like quick D&C, mask cases. I don't like having to do a D&C where I have to intubate... too much work for a short case.

I like long open belly cases, fluids, blood, pressors, tweaking the vent etc, lots of work, makes the case/day go by fast.

I like TLH with a surgeon who knows what the hell their doing, I have worked with MDs who take 45min and some that take 1.5 hours.

I like Total Knees, because I can follow the surgery and know what's next also because I like regionals: do a spinal, saphenous block then propofol.

Knees, might be my favorite surgery, but that might be because our Ortho Doc is my favorite surgeon.

I like about any procedure where I get to do a block.

That's really interesting. Thanks for the detailed reply. It makes sense that the surgeon your working with is vital to enjoying the case or not. A friend that is an anesthesiologist told me she has a very short list of surgeons she would want to operate on her and that it didn't take too long to figure out who made that list. ;)

Why is that? I know that's a total rookie question, but I'm just learning about the world of anesthesia.

Any case I get paid for.

I like to do ultrasound guided nerve blocks. When done right the block will be the primary means of analgesia for 1-3 days.

Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining.
