What experience do you get with LTC?

Published

Hi everyone:

I am new to the site and to nursing. I graduated 12/2010 and I received my RN license late March of this year. I landed a job at a LTC rehab center. I am actually going to finalize everything tomorrow morning. Anyway, I wanted med/surg or some sort of hospital experience so I could go for nursing jobs I wanted in a few years. The job market is really bad as most new grads can agree and I am taking this offer and running with it. This is either for a fulltime day pos or a part time weekender pm shift...don't find out til tomorrow. Since I can list experience now on a resume (or in a few months) do you think this will count towards experienced RN? Is this subacute care? The units are post ortho surgery with rehab, hospice, dementia care, skilled care nursing home and resident care. It sounds well rounded to me. I would like to do Med/Surg or Peds in Chicago (that's where I am) do you think this can help me get there? Thanks for any advice or thoughts. Ultimately I am taking the job offer since it is all I have but I dont want it not to count for something. Hopefully I love it there and can go full time and this wont be an issue but Peds is my goal.
