What exactly is "women's health?"

Published

I hope this question doesn't sound dumb! :imbar

I just applied and got a call back for an interview on a women's health unit. I've done an externship in L&D so I have a little bit of experience (as much as a new grad can have I guess you can say.) I've been having a hard time finding positions for L&D/postpartum in my area so when I saw this job on a women's health unit I applied right away. I have an interview scheduled for Tuesday and I would like to have some idea what to expect. Thanks for your help!!

I would expect that it includes a good bit of gynecology. You should ask specifically what their patient makeup is when you interview.

Specializes in L&D, Mother/Baby.

Some hospitals encompass all women's care as Women's Health. This usually includs L&D, Mother/Baby, and OB/Gyn, and sometimes oncology

The widest definition of Women's Health is anything to do with the female reproductive system--birth control issues, STDs, fertility needs, OB, and anything of a gynecological nature including medical and surgical approaches to a variety of diseases and conditions.

Often, the main focus of Women's Health is OB.

I wish you well. Let us know what happens.

Specializes in everywhere.

The previous poster said what I was going to.

Good Luck

Specializes in Rural Health.

At one hospital in my area it includes OB, GYN of all ages, post op gyn of all ages, L&D, NICU, PP and WBN.

At another it is strictly GYN issues and post op GYN of all ages.

Ask lots of questions and good luck!!!!
