:chuckle :chuckle deray. You said it.
Future RN05, it would take pages to list all the duties of a nurse. Nurses can be found in any health care setting doing everything from basic physical care, treatments, giving medications...lots of tasks.
But mostly, the biggest part of a nurses job is THINKING. The nurse constantly is assessing the patient, the environment, the treatment plan, ....making judgements as to what to do and not do for the patient. You are alert to subtle changes in the condition of your patient, and take early action to prevent complications.
Nurses are teachers- big time! You are always teaching patients, families, staff, (and the docs too sometimes.)
Nurses have a role in hundreds of settings outside of hospitals too.....home care, mental health, schools, businesses, education.
There is no limit to the jobs/ roles open to a nurse. The tricky part is finding a job that fits you, (and treats you right).
Get the best education you can, study hard!! See you when you graduate.:)
thankz! that really helped!
Another thought....can you get a hold of a Fundamentals of Nursing text? Try a library at a college that has a nursing program. The first few chapters often outline the professionalism and the roles of nurses.
Best of luck to you.
