What is difference in actual job between us and Australia hospital nursing.

Published

Hello all. Thanks for any replies. Is there aids in australia or is it total care. Do Australian nurses work 8 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts. Is there ratios and if not how many patients per nurse. Etc... I'm an Rn with 5 years of hospital experience and am going to finish my bachelors degree in one semester then start applying to Australia. Thanks for any help.

There are aids in some areas, but they are often there to watch patients who are high falls risk/wandering etc. You should expect that you will be providing full care, however, in some areas there may be a aid to help the team.

In general most nurses in a hospital work 8 hour shifts. Some speciality areas such as ICU have 12 hours shifts.

Ratio will depend on the acuity of the area, legislation varies between states.
