Since I cant get a straight answer out of any of the instructors or Deans at Baker can someone please tell me what the clinical schedule is like? I am having a baby in Sept and am trying to figure out what I need to do about childcare while I am at school. Thanks!

I can't speak personally.. but.. I might be able to acquire some info.. I have a friend who actually teaches at Baker for nursing. I have sent an email to her looking for info

ooh that would be so great thank you very much!!!

okay... I asked my friend ... here is her response.. It might give you a small idea.. at least for the first clinicals

I can only speak for the Fundamental Clinical (1st semester) there is a 4 hour orientation and 7 (8 hour) days at the clinical site for a total of 60 hours. The clinical are held on Friday and start the second week of class. This semester my group are at Troy Beaumont Hospital, the students need to be on the unit at 6:45 am - 12:45 pm. They report off to the nurses and then we have lunch from 1-1:30 followed by post-conference until 3:30. Remember I am talking about my group.

Hi, I am a student at Baker. For Fundamentals clinicals are one day a week either Thursday or Friday. Most are from 7 am to 3:30 pm. After Fundamentals clinicals are 2 days a week.

Specializes in postpartum.

I'm a student at Baker . . . each clinical starts with an orientation, it's usually a half of a day, about four hours, but it can be a full day depending on the clinical instructor. Fundamentals clinicals are one day a week, Med-Surg I clinicals are two days per week, OB and Peds are once per week apiece, Psych and Elderly are one day per week apiece, and the last semester you follow your preceptors schedule. Clinicals are eight hours long and are usually 7-3:30 or 3-11:30. There were a few people who got 11 am-7:30 pm clinicals in fundamentals.

It's up to the instructor, though. I've had some clinicals that started at 6:30 in the morning, but we did get to leave early. Some instructors have a full day at the start of the rotation and a half of a day at the end.
