What are my chances of being accepted?

I screwed up big in high school, and did not graduate for many reasons. I am now 24 and after working as a medical assistant/administrator for 4 years I have decided to pursue Nursing. I am doing academic upgrading through college to get grade 12 equivalency and then doing the Pre- Nursing course. According to advisors, this is the way to go....but I'm worried after doing all this, I will still not be accepted. I am prepared to spend many more years in school to achieve my goals, as I know I'm dreaming big. I would appreciate any thoughts, comments or advice. Thank you.

    I wouldn't say that you're dreaming big, many nursing students are non-traditional nowadays. At my college, I see people fresh out of high school along with 60 year old's who want a change. Taking a few years off is not going to put you at any sort of disadvantage. The best thing about college is that it ISN'T high school. Your past circumstances won't dictate how you do in college, only your passion and dedication will.

    As far as not being accepted, just keep your goals in focus and do as well as you can in all the pre-nursing classes. Start studying for nursing school entrance exams, and if possible, apply to as many colleges as you can. Really the best thing I can say is don't have a preconceived notion about who you are and what you're capable of because of teenage years. I'd say if you're truly dedicated and know what you want, you have a great chance of being accepted. Good luck!

    Honestly these days there are so many ways to go about becoming a nurse and people do it with all different kinds of backgrounds. Just keep working for it and you will get there! There is no right or wrong way as long as you achieve the goal!

    I have a relative that didn't get their GED till their late 30's/ early 40's?.

    Now they have masters and teach high school science.
