What career choice do i take?

Published

I am a UK mum to 4 children at the age of 33. I went back to college september 2008 on a Pre-Access course. I have to say i am throughly enjoying myself as i have realised i really do have a brain after all!! I do have days where i think why am i doing this as i am putting myself down yet again.

The problem i have is i am unsure on what direction to take when i have finished this course. I dont know if its nursing i want to do or something on the lines of a social worker.

I suffered with Depression for a long time and feel there isnt enough help out there for people that suffer with depression. I feel if i do something on the lines of Depression i can understand them as i have been there and know all about it, so i can understand the people suffering with this.

I just dont know what to do. Meantal health nurse sounds good to me but then so does Social worker for mental health. How do i know what direction to take and if its hte right direction.

Sometimes i feel though i cant see me being anything other than a mum BUT i know deep down i want to help people get through life without suffering!!

ANY advice is great THANKS!!

I don't know if it's possible...but could you just become a nurse, and then do the social worker if your heart desires and be a mental health...you know whatever position you fall into. I remember when my work (I work in a nursing home, so I realize it's a bit different, that requirements might be different, ect.) was looking for a social worker they were encouraging nurses to apply because a nurse understands the social work aspect as well...just a thought and I don't know if it's possible.
