I've been hearing from people that as a hh nurse you can write off your car, gps, phone, etc. I'll ask when I start my job, but I was curious what your experiences are with write offs?

I am perplexed on this issue also. I just finished my first 3 months in HH and would like some information on this question. Are there any experienced field nurses out there that can help us newbies with this??????
This site has been sooo helpful for me! I love all of the information and small tidbits have been priceless to me. Thanks so much!:typing

Two part answer: for your specific tax situation you really should seek the advice of a professional tax person like an accountant. That way you will get legal, appropriate answers for your individual financial situation.
The other more general answer: all the things you listed can be taken as tax deductions IF they meet certain criteria such as being more than a cerain percentage of your AGI, exclusive use, et al. Which brings me back to the first part of my answer: ask a tax professional.
IMHO far too many people just pop off with "Oh all that stuff is fully deductible" without taking into account that ain't necessarily true for everyone. For myself the last dang thing I want....or need....is to be audited and discover I have taken a ton of non allowable business expenses. The IRS is not known for their empathic, sympathetic response to non-allowable deductions and underpaid taxes.
