I am in charge of staff development at a hospital. Some nurses are clinical education specialists who work in a specific nursing unit but when education is needed, they are the resource person (scheduling preceptors with new hires, working with students, coordinating with staff developer, etc).
I have been employed as a clinical educator in a specialty area for the past 8 years. I am full time, salaried, and make less $ per hour than i do as a staff nurse (second position). However, i do not have a MSN. my facility strongly encourages a MSN for my position, but there is no increase in pay. i do plan to continue my education, but it is a personal goal. also, once i complete my msn, i plan to teach online for extra $.

I'm currently in the MSN program for education. I've been wanting to teach clinical, but I keep hearing about the big paycut...something I don't like. I've been looking around online seeing what doors the MSN in education can open up. I've thought about unit educator, but what else is there? Can this MSN possibly open up coordinator or middle management positions, someone shed some light on what exactly I can do besides teach. I've been doing my research, and asking various people I work it. So I'll let you know what I find out, but figured I'd ask too.
