I will be getting my Liberal Arts degree in May2012. I was thinking that since I didnt do good in my 2 year college for my pre reqs to go to a LPN school. Can my chances of getting into a nursing program increase if I combine a LPN license with my grades I got from Liberal Arts degree?

Are you getting an associates or a bachelors degree? I am guessing that you mean that your pre-req grades are not high enough to get accepted into a RN program. Many LPN programs have pre-entrance exams and pre-requisites. You would need to inquire at local schools to see if you meet the entry requirements.

If you have a bachelors degree, be aware that you will not be eligible for much if any financial aid if you go to an LPN program. If your pre-req grades are C's or D's plus a LPN diploma and license, there may not be much of a difference when you apply to an RN program especially if the minimum GPA for entrance is a 3.0 or higher (and many programs require higher than a 3.0) Some county colleges offer an LPN to RN bridge program (AS or AAS degree) where having a LPN license plus successfully completing the pre-req course may give you an alternative entrance to the RN program. (in my area the one program the LPN-RN bridge students are assessed separately from the straight RN students for admission but only if the LPN successfully completes the written test and practical skills demonstration for the equivalent of an end-of-course evaluation for Nursing 1. Therefore admission chances are higher (if pass the eval) since there are (here anyway) less students competing for the LPN-RN bridge seats than the entry RN seats)
