What can I expect?

Published

Next week I have an appointment at Baker to sign up in the pre nursing program beginning 1/2006. I am married, 36 and have a 7 yr old girl. I have always wanted to be a rn. I plan on going to school full time and over the summer because I would like to complete the program in 3 yrs. I am scared because it has been so long since I went to school and Baker said I have to maintain at least a 3.8 G.P.A. I do not want to have to wait 2-3 years to even get in to the rn program. I am not sure if my expectations are too high?

Hello, I just want to give you a heads up on the Baker college of Flint Nursing program. I am going into my third year there and still waiting to get into the program:( My GPA is not high enough to get in, but I keep applying every semester. The classes are not hard you just have to work hard to maintain an A. It also depends on the Professor you get. Micro, Patho, A&P 1,2 are the easiest. Well I thought so, but I received a B in Basic pharm, and a B in Holistics, and the rest of my grades a A's so it sucks to have to retake B's and I am still not guaranteed to get in.

I just talked to the admissions advisor at Baker (Clinton Twp.) and told her what you had said. She claims they just started choosing candidates based on GPA, and the test you take after all pre reqs are done and how many times you had to repeat a class. She thought thi semester Flint was doing this too. I told her if I have to wait 2 years I'll go to the community college and spend half the money for the classes. She's going to call me after she meets with the program directors so will see. Good luck!:)

I received a letter from Baker College of Flint, that the year 2007 they will start having students take a pre test to get in and yes they will mark you down for repeat of classes. Now Clinton Township could be totally different:) But as of right now at Baker college they only except 30 students a semester with the highest GPA????

Well I spoke to the admin. advisor this morning at Baker and Clinton Twp. now has 60 seats but I just have a bad feeling about them. I am going to start at Macomb C.C. in January and work my butt off and hopefully get in the program there.

Hello, Did you talk with Baker college of Flint, and they said they except 60 students? Is that a semester or for the year? Just curious, because they would be great if they excepted 60 a semester???

Well I have heard great things on Macomb CC and Good luck with your studies. You can do anything you set your mind on:)

I spoke with Baker in Clinton Twp. I am not sure if it for a semester or a year. Although that probably doesn't help you out. She had also mentioned they are trying to get a bachlor's rn program started too.

last I heard Baker in Flint was only taking 35 per year because the program is fairly new at that campus. Because Mott CC has over 900 on their waitlist, baker had over 700 applicants. if you don't have a 4.0 it will be hard to get in.

I am in my second semester of clinicals at Baker-Flint. They accept 30 students twice a year (fall/winter). The lowest G.P.A. I believe was a 3.94 that was accepted for my class. Next year they are going to administer a pre-nursing test which will be a determinant along with G.P.A. and you will be marked down if you have to repeat any classes. They are going to a point system, but G.P.A. will still be a huge factor. I was in nursing school at a community college 13 years ago and never finished due to life circumstances. Let me just say that Bakers program is ten folds better than the community college I attended. It is highly demanding but when I graduate next year, I will be so much better prepared to start my career-and more knowledgable. Good Luck!!!:)
